How to Increase Downloading Speed in BSNL Broadband

HOW TO INCREASE DOWNLOADING SPEED IN BSNL BROADBAND
BSNL is the government owned telecom company in India that provides different services like landlines phones, wireless phones, broadband internet connections etc…

BSNL broadband internet connection is the most used broadband service in India. But many people find the download speed is not upto the mark. If so, BSNL provides an option to upgrade the internet speed by opting for another plan. Currently BSNL offers bandwidth of upto 8MBPS. But if you’re not interested to upgrade to a new broadband plan and wanted to increase the internet speed using some tips, then here are the detailed instructions.

I am using UL750 plan of BSNL. UL750 means Unlimited plan with monthly rental of 750INR (taxes extra). It provides speed of 512 kbps, which is Verygood for normal surfing and downloads.

Today i am not going to tell you any secret or something different here. I will give you few details about how BSNL or any ISP (Internet service provider) calculate the speed of there connections.

According to plan specifications of 750 UL plan, it is provided that the plan will provide bandwidth of 256kbps (note the small kbps).Means you will get the speed around 32KBps (now note the capital KBps). If you are aware of storage conventions and about the TB,GB,KB,kb etc. Then you must aware of the table below.

Data conversion table :
Bite: 8 bits = 1 byte
Bytes: 1024 bytes = 1 KB
Kilobytes: 1024 KB = 1 MB
Megabytes: 1024 MB = 1 GB…….

The Fact : BSNL is providing speed of 256kbps which is equivalent to 32KBps !! So if you are getting speed around 30-32KBps while downloading then you are getting best for what you are paying. If you want any such conversions in broadband plans just divide the number by eight. i.e. 256/8 = 32.

TIPS 1. Generally windows reserves 20% of the bandwidth provided by the Internet service providers. So if we can reduce the limit to 0, then we can use the complete bandwidth allocated for us.

Go to Start -> Run Type “gpedit.msc” to open the group policy editor.
Navigate to “Local Computer Policy” -> “Computer Configuration” -> “Administrative Templates” -> “Network” -> “QOS Packet Scheduler” -> “Limit Reservable Bandwidth.”

Now, double-click on the option named “Limit Reservable Bandwidth” and change the value from 20 to 0.

TIPS 2. The third-party DNS servers are always better than the default BSNL DNS servers. So changing these can help you increase the download speed of the BSNL broadband.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center/Network Connections -> Open “Local Area Connection” and click on “Properties” button. Now click on “TCP/IP” and in the DNS address fields, replace the current DNS servers with the following two addresses. 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Click “OK” and restart the Internet connection.

TIPS 3. For downloading, use Internet download manager software it will download files quickly.

TIPS 4. Avoid surfing and Downloading at the same time. (Particularly for BSNL Connections).

That’s it! The above tips worked Good for me to increase my BSNL broadband speed.

Note: Windows 7 Home Edition (64 bit) doesn’t have gpedit.msc option (group policy editor). Hence, skip the first step and go with the second option if you’re win 7 home user.
